My First was a Necro and despite makeing a real balls-up of it i still had great fun...
However after this i played as an E/Mo... i found the damage i could deal in one go refreshing and really enjoyed playing this character... after this i played a W/Mo and i really enjoyedn this one too because of being able to take damage without dieing to quickly...
I think that your enjoyment of a class i at least partly based on your previous experiences... if you died a lot go a warrior or a ranger as these don't and you think wooo! i'm not dieing.
personally i think that my favourite class is necromancer because i really enjoy all the minions and the wet squelches they make when they die.

Warrior/Necromancer, all the way for me.
Easy reasons. I liked warriors in any game due to their 'CHALLENGE ME' aura they seem to emanate when fighting entire mobs of dewm... This game has the best melee class ever because of the 2ndary class idea. (God why didn't other online rpgs think of that sooner?) The necro curses set truely has a list of skills that I believe any primary class can use and not lose any efficiency if at all...
W/N let's me challenge hoards of mobs in pve [the enchant stripping melee kind] and tank quite well.

For me, it doesn't get much sweeter than killing a mob who's nailing a teammate with an arrow from over a hundred feet. Ranger all the way! Current experiment: Ranger/Warrior -- he shoots arrows; he hits things with a big stick, and can make them explode! What will he do next?!

i'm found ranger monk to be one of the most fun classes i've ever played, by far. i can whap things long before they even start running for me, do it fairly cheap, and it's an incredibly flexible build.
so long as you hit 12+ expertise, your skills cost so little, you'll wonder if you're even paying for them, and with a monks healing abilities, you tend to survive at close range. toss in the ability for a ranger to drop into stance for a rather good bit of time, and you have an instant winner on your hands.
i love my class.

So far the only class I've really enjoyed playing is the Mesmer. I like watching enemies fail everytime they try something, it's the most satisfying approach for me.
There's a lot more skill in a Mesmer than, for example, a Warrior, who only needs to do [c] + [space] all the time.
The only drawback is that you can't really farm and most of the PvE can be quite uninteresting. But PvP kicks arse with a Mesmer!

Rangers are fun due simply to the huge breadth of the class - want to play shutdown? Fine Energy Denial? Yeah, we can do that. Want to deal conditions and mess up opponents? Great, that's easy. Want to pull unsuspecting foes into traps? Works well too! Deal damage? Sure - area using Barrage/Conjure or individual using quickshot/kindle/TF... Feel like having fun with a pet, you can do that too - alter the game by using nature rituals to boost your self and mess up foes - armour yourself vs any element - defensive stances - blind opponents - remove enchantments or punish those using them - cure your own conditions with a signet or simply ignore them with a stance, and run from anyone who would chase you with superb running skills or by crippling your foes.
Rangers can do nearly anything without even taking a secondary class. Then again, to use a secopndary properly a ranger makes huge sacrifices to his ranger skills anyway. Only real drawback is that it takes time to get going, you don't hit your stride till much later in game.

Warriors all the way. Doesn't matter which secondary, you can make them all work. Being an invincible dreadnaught is ridiculously fun, and despite what people tell you, there's more depth to them than most people credit them for. Cunning stated all we do is C+Space. Ha... haha.... hahahahaha.... That's good man.
Try playing a class against 5 other classes who ALL have multiple ways of shutting you down, and you'll begin to learn what separates the newb mending paladins from the boys that shred your team to pieces. Doesn't matter what it is, from farming entire flocks of enemies to eating casters alive in PvP, warrior is the best way to roll, hands down.
Ok, ok, so I'm a little biased, but by gosh, look how hardcore our armor is. Don't pretend like you don't sit in Marhan's Grotto/Gran Cit and watch as we buy our new armors. We know you do. ^_~

I'm one of those guys that can get no better high than by helping others. That's why any healer type is for me.
To keep it interesting, I like healer builds that put me at risk, like Mo/N using Blood Offering and E/Mo using Infuse Life. If you still have your E/Mo, try making the build in the Elementalist Basics sticky and try it out.
EDIT: I also like to play R/W Axe Warriors lol.

never ran into a good kd warrior i assume ... you'll be dead before you can even touch him (taking he has enough adrenalin to start his kd chain)
anyway, the thread starter was interested in pve characters, not pvp ...
i've played pretty much every combo possible and what i enjoyed the most were :
my axewarrior : i simply love my axewarrior, love to play it, love to tank stuff, bash away at helpless casters, use tactics to my advantage, ...
my minion master : did reverse the scales quest specially to get my bone fiends early, and i loved them. Nothing cooler than a minion master and his army of undead taking monk as secondary can help keep your summoned units alive till you get the necro skills for it
basically, it's just a matter of what you like most

I enjoy playing mesmer, hammer warrior and ranger. Mesmer requires some skill, which is great imo.

war/mo tactics/smiting tank for pve. Triggering zealot's fire off of stances and shouts for the win, plus with glad's armor you can bonnetti's defense into enough energy for a balthazar's aura. Why try to find an ele/mo smiter when you can do it yourself? Plus in pve you can get away with carrying gladiator's defense and bonnettis/shield stance at 13 tactics =^)

I find it very interreseting to have both the ability to nuke away and pin your oponents at the same time. + I'm one to enjoy the ability to use a pet. Great potential there at the early stages of the game.
If you wanna be a pure nukler for PoE, go for it, or if you wanna GvG or PvP, go full Air, on the other hand if you wanna go trapper, it's up to you too, no sweat. This combo is just full of options.
